Music is life.
When asked to explain what jazz is, Louis Armstrong said simply, “Jazz is life.” With the creation of what’s been called America’s only original art form, New Orleans changed music forever and for the better. And while you can still hear authentic jazz in all its forms here in its birthplace, it’s not the only music we play here. While the city gave the world Buddy Bolden, King Oliver, Sidney Bechet, Kid Ory, Jelly Roll Morton, Satchmo, Louis Prima, Al Hirt and Pete Fountain, we also produced Mahalia Jackson, Fats Domino, Ernie K. Doe, Allen Toussaint, Dr. John, the Dixie Cups, Irma Thomas and the Neville Brothers. Rock, blues, rap, bounce…you can hear it all pouring out into the streets from clubs all over New Orleans.
We invite you to second-line in the streets with our brass bands. Dance all night long with Los Hombres Calientes. Bounce with Big Freedia. Find out where Kermit Ruffins and Trombone Shorty are playing this weekend. And create memories with the Aaron Neville, Harry Connick, Jr., Terrence Blanchard, Irvin Mayfield and all members of the Marsalis jazz dynasty at Jazz Fest.
